For my preliminary task, I decided to use a picture of my friend, Mercedes Bullman. I chose to do so, because an audience/ reader may be familiar with her and therefore want to read the magazine in order to find out what it's about. She is having direct eye contact with the camera, drawing a reader in. Her code of dress is a casual top and a flat peak; the medium close up allowing us to see only this. I think this could attract my target audience as I feel they could relate to her fashion sense, or even start a fashion trend. My target audience, students at college aged 16-18, are stereotypically interested in topics such as gossip, events and fashion. Therefore I hope that including a fashion aspect would be successful. I changed the effects of the image to make it look slightly cartoonic/ illustrated. I think this makes it look more interesting and would hopefully entice an audience to read it. I based the articles included within on the questionnaire that I did in the planning process of my college magazine, to ensure that I include features that my audience would be interested in reading about.
